English Translation (T.W.Ratana
Mangai)
Verily the work of the Father, or Jehovah, is Creation
The work of the Holy Spirit is to re-produce, and to
cause those things created to grow, or increase, much in the same way
as woman gives birth to child to increase those things created. The work
of the Son, or Christ, is (or was) to “Save” or to preserve
those things created. (Ref
WM 15 o Mei 1926)
Te Kaupapa o te Whakapono o te Hahi Ratana

(Kenehi 3: 1-24) (Hiperu 9: 26-28)
The Creed of the Ratana Church
2…I
believe that man was Created in the image of Jehovah, but that through
wrong doing, he lost the possibilities and the joy of this his heritage,
thus the necessity arose for a Saviour-Redeemer to deliver him from the
power and consequences of sin in this life and the life that is beyond
the death of the body. (Genesis
1:26-27) (Genesis 3:1-24) (Hebrews 9:26-28)
Only the spirit knows the spirit, and the flesh knows the flesh through
the sacrifice of Jesus Christ we can begin to know the difference between
spirit and flesh. In Jesus famous Sermon on the Mount he said, “Happy
are those conscious of their spiritual needs (Matthew
5:3)
Dictionary defines Spirituality as: -
Sensitivity or attachment to religious values, the quality or state of
being spiritual. You hear people quoting hey that person is business minded,
it applies also too someone who is spiritual minded.
Maori Version:

(Hoani 16: 7-15) (Roma 8: 1-16)
English Translation:
Creed of the Ratana Church
4…I believe in the
Holy Spirit, the Breath of Jehovah, the giver of Life, who proceeding
from the Father and from the Son is to-be Worshipped with the Father and
the Son. The Prophets spoke by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. He
reveals to man’s consciousness his sins and their correction and
lead’s man to trust, and rest firmly upon the Saviour, transforming
his heart and mind until he becomes Christ like in Holy love.
(John 14:16-21)
(John 16:7-15) (Romans 8:1-16)
The Old Testament of the Holy Bible speaks of the Spirit of GOD
Create a new heart in
me, O God, and renew a faithful spirit within me.
Do not force me away from your presence and do not take your Holy Spirit
from me.
Restore the joy of your salvation to me, and provide me with a spirit
of willing obedience. (Psalms 51:10-11-12)
Maori Version (Tapae)
E te Morehu, e whakaae ana ra tatou ki te Tapae atu i o tatou he katoa
ki o tatou Ariki, kia tahuna atu ki te ahi kia pungarehu atu ne? "Ae"
English Translation (Confession)
O Remnants do you agree to confess our sins and wrong doings before, the
Trinity to burn your sins in the Holy Fire until they turn to ashes: Agreed
Yes we agree".
Maori Version (Ripeneta)
Ka noho ano tatou i runga i te ngakau Ripeneta, kia whanau hou ai i
roto i te wairua ne "Ae".
English Translation (Repentance)
That you may rest in the heart of Repentance, so that you may be born
again, under the Spirit. Agreed? - Answer- "Yes we agree".
What a simple yet beautiful Confession and Repentance
for us the Morehu (Remnants). We the Morehu are reborn again under the
spirit every time we have Tapae Repeneta - Confess and Repent.
In the New Testament it was through Jesus Christ that
the Holy Spirit truly became known to the world and this Maramatanga took
up the three parts of GOD Te Tokotoru Tapu and we knew of the true nature
of Jehovah, the Holy Trinity
Resurrection
(1 Peter 3:18)
Declares: For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust,
that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made
alive by the Spirit.
(Romans
8:11) States, "But if the Spirit of Him who
raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the
dead will also give life to your mortal bodies."
(1
Peter 3:18) Declares: For Christ also suffered once
for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being
put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit.
The Unforgivable Sin:
How important is the Wairua Tapu?
It is so important that the only unforgivable sin in the entire Bible
concerns the Holy Spirit. You can do and commit any sin that you can think
of, and if you repent of that sin, you will be forgiven, except for one
sin, that if you commit will never be forgiven. This unforgivable sin
is found in several different places in the Bible.
(Luke
12:10) "And everyone that says a word against
the Son of Man, that will be forgiven; but he that blasphemes against
The Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.
(Mark
3:29) "Whoever blasphemes against The Holy Spirit
will never have forgiveness, but is guilty of everlasting sin."
(Matthew
12: 31-32) "Therefore I say to you, any sin
and blasphemy shall be forgiven men, but blasphemy against the Spirit
shall not be forgiven. And whoever shall speak a word against the Son
of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever shall speak against the
Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age, or in the
age to come".
How then is true spirituality achieved?
Through just about every religion claims to know the path to spirituality,
the directions given are about as numerous as the religions themselves.
For Example
A Protestant claims to
be saved at a revival meeting
A Catholic seeks Holy Communion with God in mass
A Buddhist pursues enlightenment through meditation
A Hindu strives for release from the cycle of rebirths through self-denial
A Jehovah Witness seeks the truth to witness utterance of Jehovah
A Seventh Day Eventess seeks righteousness’ by keeping the Sabbath
A Christian believes salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord
A Jewish believes God lead them to the land of milk and honey
A Morehu believe they are Gods people due to the 8th November 1918
Can this all be truth, they all hold spiritual truth, this means to believe
without longing. If this can get you to rest firmly upon Ihoa then that
is a step taken. Clearly, people differ greatly in their ideas about spirituality.
Written Word
There are 1000s of books written that claim to show the way to a spiritual
life, some people find them selves and many don’t, they are left
unfulfilled and confused. However, there is one book however, that does
contain reliable guidance on spiritual matters. According to scripture
the Apostle Paul.
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine,
for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness (2
Timothy 3:16).
Worship God in Spirit
Jesus was resting by a fountain and had a conversation with a Samaritan
woman, he said to her “God is a spirit and those worshipping him
must worship with the spirit and truth. (John
4:24)
Maori Version: Ihoa is Wairua
T.W.Ratana: - E mea ana te Kupu Karaipiture – He Wairua te Atua,
me karakia te hunga karakia ki a ia I runga I te Wairua, I te pono Waihoki
ka mea atu nei ahau ki a koutou I tenei ra’ – he Wairua ano
hoki Te Mangai me inoi atu koutou ki a ia I naianei I runga I te Wairua,
I te Pono’. Koutou nga Morehu e u ana ki aau, kia u. Ko te waahi
e hui ai te hunga tokorua, tokotoru ranei, he whakaaro ki Tooku ingoa,
kei waenganui ahau I a ratou. (Ref

English Translation: God is Spirit
T.W.Ratana: - Explains that Scriptures tell us – God is Spirit and
we should worship God in Spirit and in Truth’. Likewise I say unto
the Mangai is spirit also, and you should worship the Mangai in spirit,
and in Truth. Those Morehu who are loyal to me, have courage, whenever
and wherever two or three of you gather together for my namesake, I am
there with you. (Ref
WM June 1936)
Scriptures tells us about Spiritual Man
and a Physical Man
In (2 Timothy),
it tells us to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded
in life and peace, wrote by Paul the Apostle in (Romans
8:6) that it is a matter of life and death. Then
what sense does a spiritual person receive life and peace?
According to scripture a person would enjoy peace and with God and will
be blessed with ever lasting life in the future. (Romans
6:23) and (Philippians 4:7)
While Jesus was preaching his Sermon on the Mount to his disciples and
his congregations, he said “Happy are those conscious of their spiritual
need. (Matthew
5:3)
So therefore, what is true spirituality and how does one attain this
gift. The Apostle Paul had a lot to say about spirituality, as he explained
the difference between a physical man and a spiritual man. (1
Corinthians 2:14-16)
Physical Man
Paul said that a physical man is a person who follows the impulse of the
flesh, and does not receive the things of the spirit of God, for they
are foolishness to him.
Spiritual Man
On the other hand Paul the Apostle explains that a spiritual man is someone
who cherishes spiritual things, and is characterised by having the mind
of Christ. (1 Corinthians
2:14-16)
A spiritual man cherishes spiritual things has the characterized by having
the mind of Christ (1
Corthinians 2:14-16)
Mind of Christ
To have the mind of Christ to walk and practice these values and morals.
This is a person who thinks as Jesus did and walks in his footsteps. (1
Peter 2:21; 4:1)
The more a person’s mind resembles that of Christ, the deeper his
spirituality is and the closer he is to gaining life in peace. (Romans
13:14)
The teaching of Jesus in the New Testament is a good way to get to understand,
to mind the mind of Christ (John
17:3). In the Gospels of Matthew,
Mark, Luke, and John give the accounts to perceive Jesus’ way of
thinking, his depth of feeling, and his motivation behind his actions,
that builds a picture on what kind of person he was in his kindness and
knowledge. (2 Peter
3:18) (John 13:15)
The Apostle Luke states that Gods Holy Spirit was poured out on Jesus
at his baptism and that Jesus was full with the Holy Spirit. (Luke
3:21, 22; 4:1)
Jesus told his followers the importance of being guided by Gods Holy
Spirit, or active force (Genesis
1:2) (Luke 11:9-13)
Gods Spirit has the power to transform a persons mind, so that it begins
to resemble the mind of Christ. (Romans
12:1-2)
Fruits of the Spirit
The Holy Spirit produces in a person such qualities as Love, joy, peace,
long suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, mildness, and self-control.
These qualities, which the bible calls “the fruitage of the spirit,
marks a spiritual person. (Galatians
5:22-23)
Maori Version (T. W. Ratana Mangai)
“Kei te tu te Rakau, a, ko tena Morehu tona tana Rakau. Ko te Papa
Ngakau te oneone, ko nga Whakaaro nga puawai, a hei te whakatutukitanga
I aua whakaaro ka kitea ai nga hua, he pai ranei, he kina ranei”
(WM Hurae 1927)
English Translation (T.W.Ratana Mangai)
People liken to trees, Even as the tree stands – each Morehu is
his or her own tree. Your Heart is the Earth in which it grows, your thoughts
are the flowers, and when your thoughts are put into practice you will
see the “Fruits of your tree”, and know whether they are good
or bad” (WM
Hurae 1927)
In short, a spiritually minded person is one who is guided by Gods Holy
Spirit, Jesus and the Mangai displayed the fruitage of the spirit throughout
their ministry. These qualities of love, kindness, and goodness were particularly
evident in the way Jesus treated those who were considered lowly society,
the little people. (Matthew
9:36)

One quote spoken by T.W.Ratana Mangai to his followers in believing in
Jehovah, that in Jehovah would be their refuge and protection for all
times, and guide in their walk of life.
Maori Version: (Ref
WM No.1865-1866, August-September 1981: pg4)
“Takoto atu ki a Ihoa o nga Mano hei Kai Arahi mo koutou I nga wa
katoa, I roto I a koutou mahi hikoi, whakaaro ano hoki I runga I te wehi,
I te Pono, I te Tika ki mua I Nga Ariki hei whakapuawai I a mahi katoa”
English Translation:
(Ref WM No.1865-1866,
August-September 1981: pg4)
“Abide with Jehovah Lord of Hosts who will watch over you always
and guide you in your work, in your travels, in your thoughts; and in
all your duties, proceed with reverence, in Faith and in truth before
Jehovah, the Father, Son, the Holy Spirit, and their Faithful Angels,
for thereby all your labour shall flourish and bear fruit” (Ref
WM No.1865-1866, August-September 1981: pg4)
This example was given by the Apostle Paul, Jesus was
passing along he saw blind man from birth. Jesus disciples also noticed
the man but saw him as a sinner. Who is a sinner, they asked, this man
or his parents. The mans neighbours also noted the man, but all they saw
was a beggar. This is the man that used to sit and beg, it is not? They
said. Jesus, however, saw the blind man as an individual who needed help.
He spoke to the blind man and cured him.
(John 9:1-8)
This tells you about the mind of Christ, that he did
not over look lower ones but treated them with tender compassion. Jesus
took the initiative to help others. Do you tend to favour those who are
prominent and overlook those who are not? (Psalms
72:12-14) So lookout least you be caught short treat
others like you treat your self.
Creed of the Ratana Church
1925 says about the (Holy Spirit)
4…I
believe in the Holy Spirit, the Breath of Jehovah, the giver of Life,
who proceeding from the Father and from the Son is to-be Worshipped with
the Father and the Son. The Prophets spoke by the inspiration of the Holy
Spirit. He reveals to man’s consciousness his sins and their correction
and lead’s man to trust, and rest firmly upon the Saviour, transforming
his Heart and mind until he becomes Christ like in Holy love. (John
14:16-21) (John 16:7-15) (Romans 8:12-16)
Clause 4 of the Ratana
Creed
Describes that we must transform our hearts and minds until we become
Christ like in Holy Love, as Jesus portrayed in Faith, Love, truth and
compassion during his ministry on earth for thereby all our labour shall
flourish and bear fruit.
Jesus Christ Spiritual
Mission
Throughout Jesus Ministry curing people was important to him, but preaching
the good news of Gods Kingdom was Jesus’ Primary Mission.
(Mark 1:14-15)
Jesus gave the command, “Go
therefore and make disciples of people of all nations, teaching them to
observe all the things I have commanded you.”
(Matthew 28:19-20)
This good news of the Kingdom will be preached in all
nations in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all nations; and then
the end will come. (Matthew
24:14). The preaching is accomplished by the power
of the Holy Spirit a true sign of true spirituality. (Acts:
1:8)
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptising them in the name of
the Father, Son, Holy Spirit. (Matthew
28:19) (Ref WM 28 Hanuere 1928)
Tahupotiki Wiremu Ratana Mission
This Divine Revelation was revealed to Tahupotiki Wiremu Ratana on the
8th Novemeber 1918, the message given by the Holy Spirit
Kia
tau ano te Rangimarie: kaua hei wehi, ko ahau tenei te Wairua Tapu. kua
raunatia e ahau te Ao ki te rapa turanga waewae moke.
Be at peace; fear not, I am the Holy Spirit. I have travelled around the
world to find the people upon whom I can stand upright.
Kitea
mai e ahau kei Aotearoa nei ko koe ko te Iwi Maori; Ripeneta! Horoia koe
me to whanau kia ma me tehu-karere kia harakore me te Kukupa".
I
have come back to Aotearoa to choose you, the Maori people. Repent! Cleanse
yourself and your family as white as snow as sinless as the wood-Pidgeon".
E
Ratana, kua meatia koe hei Mangai moku ki te Mata o te Whenua. Whakakotahitia
te Iwi Maori ki raro ki a Ihoa o nga Mano he Aroha hoki tenei na Ihoa
ki a koutou.
Ratana,
I appoint you as the mouthpiece of God for the Multitudes of this land.
Unite the Maori People; turning them to Jehovah of Host, for this is his
compassion to you all.
He carried the Holy Bible in his right hand and the Treaty of Waitangi
in his left hand as his vehicle through his twenty-year ministry spreading
aboard this great revelation. His mission was to unite the Maori people,
turning them from their old beliefs in evil spirits; tohungaism, black
magic and jealous leading them back to the one true God. (Nga
Akoranga; 1997: pp52/57)
(Maori Version)
"Haere kauhautia te Rongopai ki to Iwi Maori, whakaorangia ratou
i o ratou mauiui i runga i te Ingoa o Te Matua, Te Tama, Te Wairua Tapu,
me nga Anahera Pono; i tenei ra ka huaina koe he Mangai, ko te hunga e

1963: pg25)
(English Translation)
“Go forth, spread the Good News among your Maori people, heal them
of their infirmities in the name of the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit
and the Faithful Angels, this day you shall be called Mouthpiece, and
the people who follow you will be known as Remnants.”
(Henderson, 1963: pg25)
Roto Waho Ngakau Katoa
T.W.Ratana Mangai favoured no one Church but rather embraced them all.
The main work and activities during the end of 1918, and the beginning
of 1919, consisted of preparation for his ministry in the Ture Wairua
(spiritual works) as a travelling Evangelist preaching the “Good
News” and delivering divine healings.
Maori society had always had firm religious overtones,
although many Maori were still recovering from the First World War and
from the great World Epidemic of Influenza known as ‘the Spanish
Lady’ which laid the country low and caused rife in the Maori population.

English Translation: (Concerning Good Health)
In dealing with sickness – the spiritual and physical go together.
If the Spirit is well, so will the body be well, and if the body is well
so will the spirit be well. Without work, Faith is dead. Thus we know
that we must do something for ourselves, and not just sit around and listen
to what is said. Therefore when sickness comes we must also look to what
the physical can do and not place our trust ONLY in what the Spiritual
has to offer. (Ref

English Translation
Be eager to seek, and maintain, the unity of the spirit in the bond of
Peace. There is only One Body and One Spirit – just as you were
called to the One Hope that belongs to your call for – ONE
GOD, ONE FAITH, ONE BAPTISM. (Ephesians
4:2) (Ref WM 19th Aperira 1926)
Two Olive Trees, Two Lamp
Stands, Two Witnessess
The founder decreed that these two components should not become completely
separated from each other, but they were designed to complement each other,
one side dealing with the Church affairs while the other dealt with matters
of finances and business administration and operating in harmony for the
benefit and betterment of our Maori people.
Why did Tahupotiki Wiremu Ratana, Mangai think it so
important to keep the spiritual works separated from the physical works,
and how would they complement one another.
Why did T.W.Ratana Mangai
keep the two separated?
In addition, Jesus went into the Temple of God, and over threw the tables
of the moneychangers, and those that sold doves. (Matthew
21:12-13)
(Jesus said) Render therefore unto Caesar the things
of Caesar and unto God the things that are God’s. (Matthew
22:21-22)
What is of the spirit is of the spirit
What is of the flesh is of the flesh
No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate one and love
the other, or else he will hold to the one and despise the other, ye cannot
serve God and Mammon. (Luke
16:13)
Age of the Miracles
T.W.Ratana Mangai totally rejected money for healings. God would pay you
in his way in his time from God alone. People would gather together and
share their testimony to the wonders of miracles being performed. Ratana
would devote his time to the benefit of his poorer brother and sisters
of his own race, but the people heard of the urgent European cases that
had been treated. One was the little girl and the other a gentleman from
Gisborne who arrived on crutches and within two hours went away without
them. He left 50 pounds on the table near the healer. Just before the
man got out of the building Ratana saw the cash on table and said; (Ref
WM, 1966: pp4-5)
“Friends, someone
has left some money, who is it?” Turning back the gentlemen replied!
“I have left you a small recompense for the great good you have
done for me.”
Ratana replied! “You
must take it away, for I cannot accept payment. My work is a labour of
love, and I am but doing my religious duty.” (Ref WM, 1966:
pp4-5)
